How to Get to Dublin City from Dublin Airport

There are three ways to get from the Dublin Airport to the city, including express bus, city bus, and taxi.

Dublin Bus

Dublin Aircoach

Aircoach is an express service bus that goes to Dublin city centre and most of the city's major hotels. The trip from Dublin Airport to the city takes about 30 min and buses depart every 15 minutes. The fare is €7 for one-way and €12 for a round-trip ticket. For people travelling to other parts of the country, Aircoach also has buses to Cork, Belfast, and others destinations.

Dublin AirLink

Dublin Bus has an express bus service called AirLink, which run on routes 747 and 748. The cost is €6 for one-way and €10 for round-trip, and buses leave the airport every 10 minutes during the peak hours of the day. Some of the buses use the Dublin Port Tunnel and get to city centre in minutes by avoiding the city traffic.

For travellers interested in using the bus system during their stay in Dublin, you can get a one-day rambler ticket good for unlimited bus travel for €6. Five-day rambler tickets cost €17.50 and make a great deal for getting around the city. People interested in the rambler ticket should note that they cannot be purchased on the bus and must be bought inside the airport or from the ticket machine.

Dublin City Bus

The cheapest way to get to Dublin from the airport is on a regular, non-express Dublin Bus. Tickets can be purchased for €1.90 and depart the airport every 10-25 minutes, depending on the time of day. Depending on traffic, travel time can be between 30 min to more than an hour. You can buy your ticket at the news stand inside the airport on the same floor as the buses, or at the ticket machine at the airport bus stop. You can pay on the bus too, though all buses in Dublin require exact change. In addition to the one at the airport, several other bus stops throughout the city have ticket machines that offer change.

The following bus lines have routes that go from Dublin Airport to city centre: 16A, 41, 746, 747, and 748. Bus 16A travels through the city and stops at O'Connell Street and George's Street. Bus 41 takes a more direct route and ends at Lower Abbey Street, between the Central Bus Station and and O'Connell Street.

For people traveling onwards out side of Dublin, both the 16A and the 41 stop across the street from Drumcondra train station on the Dublin-Maynooth commuter line.

Dublin Airport Taxi

A taxi from the airport to the city centre is about €25-30 and is a good idea for people travelling in groups of 3-5.

Dublin City Metro

Plans are in the works for construction of a city metro system which will include service between Dublin Airport and the city centre.
